Racism Within School Systems

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background or his religion. People learn to hate from a young age, and if they learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite” (Mandela). For centuries people of different race and religion have been facing discrimination throughout school systems. Racism is the act of believing that a certain race holds more power than the other. Racism sadly is so deeply embedded into our minds that we have come to terms with some of the racial acts.

Some events of subtle racism within society are in the school systems and sometimes this behavior leads to anger and for people not to trust certain people. Some other actions and behavior that is shown is mental stress, social harassment, and sometimes even physical assault. This act is a never-ending cycle and still a huge crisis in today’s world.

One of the biggest acts of racism is from teachers because they end up treating their students based on their color. The way teachers treat their students plays a huge role in kids' mental health. Especially since the majority of students that get suspended from school are colored this could affect their education and future because they would just wanna give up. Racism in schools has been an issue for a long time now and if we all work together we will be able to prevent some racism in schools.

Sadly, racism within schools just doesn’t come from within students bullying each other because of race it also comes in the education students are provided. “ American schools are de facto segregated based on income and ethnicity.” We should never judge others for the way they look or the way they speak. All people are born equal and this shouldn’t change on how kids get an education in society.

One black student struggled academically and failed three major subjects for four marking periods. Teachers told administrators they did not want this particular student in their classroom the following school year.” This statement made by teachers is unacceptable. This child probably tried hard and trusted his teachers. Racism like this makes people feel bad for being born the way they are just because they have a different skin color from others. God has made each and everyone of us special in our own ways and you should never feel guilty on the way you look because you are as important as the next person that comes along.

If we educate students in ways to prevent racism or even how to deal with it in a non hostile way we as a community might be able to end racism within the school systems.
