Bullying Needs To Stop

Children all over the united states are faced with a terrible problem, and that problem is bullying in schools. Nearly one in five students have reported being bullied in schools” which is nearly 21% of students (National Center for Education Statistics [NCES], 2018)children have been silently suffering for decades because of them constantly being tormented. No child should ever be afraid to go to school, because of other children teasing them. bullying has always been a problem in the united states, and it should finally be time for people to come together as one and end it.

For many students they feel that they are so alone while going through the hardest thing someone can go through, but what they do not seem to realize Is that they are not the only ones being bullied. Some would say that bullying is good for a child is makes them stronger in a way, and as they get older they realize that nobody's opinion matters. But noone should have to go through being bullied and  For many bullying can get so bad that they choose to take their own life since they believe that there will never be an end to it. A study in Britain found that at least half of suicides among young people are related to bullying” (bullying statistics), which shows how serious bullying is. children as young as nine years old have taken their lives because of what they go through at school. We as people need to come together and make schools safer for our children. No one should be afraid to go to school they should be excited to see their friends and learn. Being a child, I couldn’t wait to go see my friends and get away from my little brother for hours, even though sometimes I hated waking up so early.

Bullying can lead to children having depression and anxiety at super young ages how is that okay? Kids should be able to be kids and should not have to worry what others say about them. From the age of 11- 13 is when bullying tends to happen a lot(Eslea, Rees) which is grades 5th through 7th. Kids today have it worst now with cyber bullying. They go to school all day and get tormented and when they go home when it should be over, many get bullied on social media as well. Before social media existed, bullying was still a problem, but it stopped when the end of day school bell rang.

Since I have seen people get picked on throughout middle school and high school, and even myself have been bullied, I know how hard of a situation it can be. In high school a friend of mine named Charles would constantly be picked on by boys on the football team. And since they were “important” to the school they never got in trouble for their actions, which is ridiculous. And it shows that even though many people would report something that nothing was done. Which makes people afraid to speak up about what is happening to them. Especially kids they sometimes don’t understand what is going on, and especially since it isn't talked about a lot towards younger children in schools. Seeing how they never got any consequences for how mean they were to Charles, showed that my school at least didn’t take bullying as serious as they should have. And I know that my school wasn’t the only one that didn’t take bullying as serious as they should have.

Children that have reported being bullied have also been reported to have behavioral problems later in life. Their grades can also start to suffer since they start becoming afraid to go to school, because they don’t want to see their bullies. Many kids are embarrassed to go to their family members to tell them that they are being bullied. And other kids just want to be accepted by others, so they just deal with what is happening to them.

I remember in middle school a bunch of “popular” kids would just be super mean to others and they would just let it happen because the girls were popular, and they wanted to be accepted. And I know that it just wasn’t my school that kids wanted to be accepted. In earlier years bullying needs to be prevented so that children can be children and grow up having a normal childhood without the negative effects that bullying can bring.

Bullies only feel the need to torment others so that they feel powerful. Many bullies are suffering with things at home or within themselves and the only way that they think they can feel better is taking all their pain out on other classmates. In my opinion I feel that when reports are made to schools about a student bullying another they need to get in some kind of punishment as well as talking to maybe a school counselor so that they can get their feelings out. Instead of them just being suspended or getting a detention.

With all of that in mind bullying needs to be stopped and talked about more in schools. Bullies need to be taken accountable for. And children being bullied need to be able to feel comfortable enough to tell someone what they are going through. Children being bullied need to also understand that its not their fault. And we need to make kids feel comfortable with going to school.
